RED-TAILED BLACK COCKATOOS:
Red-tailed black cockatoos are a large native Australian species of parrot. They are sexually dimorphic, with females identified by their gold markings through the black feathers, as opposed to the males who have entirely black feathers save the red in their tails. There are five subspecies of red-tailed black cockatoo occurring in eight different populations ranging from the Pilbara and Kimberleys in Western Australia, across the Top End to Queensland and down to Victoria and northern South Australia. These subspecies range in conservation status from vulnerable to critically endangered.
THE ARTWORK:
The original artwork was drawn exclusively in coloured pencil on A3 (approximately 30x40cm) Art Spectrum cold press cotton rag. A single photo was used for reference of Bunji, taken by Helen Grey’s friend Fi Coley in her living room. The background was inspired by a number of photos taken by Helen, ranging from Healesville Sanctuary to the young eucalypt trees growing in her own neighbourhood!
This piece is available as Limited Edition (25) prints, printed on archival quality eco friendly Hahnemuhle bamboo card. Each print comes hand signed and numbered, with it’s own unique Certificate of Authenticity. Print size without frame is approximately 11x16" (A3). All prints are created using archival inks and card, with professional scanning and processing to ensure colour matching and detail captures the original piece right down to each pencil stroke and card texture.
